错误译文：

正确译文：

翻译加油站：
原句确切的意思与原译正好相反，这里not slightly隐含着but heavily(大大地)之意，有人称之为“假否定”。 所以正确译文应是：他们大大地表扬了他(他们对他大加赞扬)。“他们根本没有表扬他”的英文应该是：They didn't praise him at all.或They didn'tp raise him in the slightest.类似的“假否定”还有：not once or twice(不止一两次)，not a little(few)(很多)，not seldom(常常)等。He was not a little frightened.的意思是“他吓得够呛”而不是“一点也没有吓着”。
特别要注意的是nothalf。《综合英语成语词典》就注明not half既可以表示“非常，极其”(to the greatest possible extent)，也可以表示“一点也不，毫不”(not at all)。 如何翻译完全要取决于上下文或根据逻辑判断，如：We don't half like it。意思是说“我们不但不喜欢，甚至感到讨厌”。又如：“Are you thirsty?”“Not half!”(“你渴吗?”“渴极了!”)She didn't half shout at him.(她冲他大吵大嚷。)That's not half bad for a beginner.(对一个新手而言，那可是相当不错了。)He hasn't half enough money.(他的钱差得远着呢。)
